The region continues to Oakland City University, and let us not forget the raceways in Haubstadt and in Chandler! In Jasper, the ole German heritage is preserved, and is surrounded by acres and acres of undeveloped land and farms, as is the case for surrounding counties. Nonetheless, the counties include small scattered communities throughout that benefit from Metropolitan Evansville's amenities, which includes hospitals, transit system, indoor shopping malls, Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, Howell WetLands, Burdette Park, and Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden. Spencer County offers Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus, with a blinging Christmas show of lights annually in Christmas Lake Village. Camping is great at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln State Park. The park features seasonal events, and, if you enjoy outdoor casts and plays at the Lincoln Amphitheatre, see also the civil-war reinactments in New Harmony.
